Pharm-D (Doctor of Pharmacy)

This five-year degree program is designed for students aiming to build a career in health department and pharmaceutical sciences. Candidates with an F.Sc. (Pre-Medical) background who meet the admission requirements are eligible to apply. At AIMS Bahawalpur, students will be engaged in a comprehensive curriculum and hands-on practical training to earn the Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm-D) degree. The program is recognized by the Pharmacy Council of Pakistan and holds national and international acceptance.

Admission Regulations

These regulations shall be called the Akbar Institute of Medical Sciences Bahawalpur regulations for admission in Pharm-D program.

a) In these Regulations, unless the context otherwise requires, the following expressions shall have the meanings hereby respectfully assigned to them:

  1. Admission Committee means the AIMS Bahawalpur admission committee constituted by Managing Director AIMS Bahawalpur.
  2. Equivalent Examination means an examination recognized by the University as equivalent to Intermediate.
  3. Bachelor Classes means classes after 12 years of education.
  4. Reserved Seats means the quota seats with predefined criterion.

Notwithstanding

a) The admission in Pharm-D of Akbar Institute of Medical Sciences Bahawalpur affiliated with The Islamia University of Bahawalpur will be made in accordance with these regulations.

  1. Any admission made in contravention of these regulations shall be void.
  2. Admission shall be made on the basis of merit in accordance with the criteria laid down by the Institute and on the basis of academic record NAT/IUB admission test where applicable.

Note:

Pharm-D program where NAT is mandatory, 40% marks are compulsory to make a candidate eligible for admission. 40% marks obtained in Medical College Admission Test will be considered as equivalent to 40% of NAT.

b) Principal of AIMS Bahawalpur and Registrar office of the university shall ensure implementation of these regulations and admission criteria as set by Board of Studies in letter and spirit.

Reserved Seats

  1. 1% of total numbers of seats of Pharm-D program is reserved for special persons having certificate of disability issued from District Social Welfare Board.
  2. 1% seats are reserved in AIMS Bahawalpur for Pharm-D program for the children of Martyrs of Army personnel and Defence Forces.
  3. 1% seats are reserved in AIMS Bahawalpur for Pharm-D program for the personnel of Pharmaceutical Industries.
  4. 1% seats are reserved for Pharmacist Daughter/Son.
  5. 1% seats are reserved for orphan students.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Minimum 60% marks in intermediate (F.Sc./A-Levels) with pre-medical subjects or B.Sc. (Botany/Zoology).
  • NTS/MDCAT must be passed.
  • Degree holders from foreign institutes should submit the equivalence certificate from Inter Board Committee of Chairman (IBCC).
  • The admission will be confirmed only when the candidate appears before the admission committee.
  • Maximum age limit is 22 years on the closing date of admission.
  • Age relaxation will be given in special cases up to 5 years by the competent authority, i.e. up to 2 years by the Principal of the College and more than 2 years by the Vice Chancellor, IUB, subject to availability of seats after accommodating all fresh applicants.

Admission Procedure

  1. A student seeking admission in Pharm-D program at Akbar Institute of Medical Sciences Bahawalpur will fill the application form with correct information.
  2. After that, student merit list will be displayed on the notice board.
  3. Students in merit list will take the challan form from Admin Office and pay the annual fee in account of Akbar Institute of Medical Sciences Bahawalpur.
  4. Students will submit duly filled application form along with relevant documents, photos, and copy of deposited fee slip at Admin Office of AIMS Bahawalpur.

Preferences and Restrictions

  1. The students having less than 80% attendance per month, their name will be struck off. The concerned Principal is authorized to readmit the student after depositing Rs. 1000/-.
  2. At any stage AIMS Bahawalpur reserves the right to cancel the admission of the student who has obtained admission by making any misstatement as well as whose admission is found to be in violation of admission regulations. The concerned Principal is authorized to cancel the admission of such students. The student may appeal within seven days of cancellation to the MD of AIMS Bahawalpur after depositing Rs. 1000/-. The decision of MD of AIMS Bahawalpur will be final.
  3. The student whose name was dropped or struck off from the college due to misconduct or creating law and order situation shall not be admitted in AIMS Bahawalpur.

Cancellation and Re-Admission of the Existing Students

  • Students having less than 80% attendance in any course shall not be allowed to appear in the final exam of concerned course.
  • They will be required to have at least 80% attendance of the total lectures delivered to the class in all papers taken together (both theory and practical).

NOTE:

  • In case of cancellation of admission of any student, fees/dues deposited by the student will not be refunded in any circumstances.
  • The students who are allowed re-admission will have to pay re-admission fee of Rs: 1000/- and 2000/-, if he/she has applied within 7 days and 21 days respectively. Such students may be given only one more chance of readmission to the class on payment of prescribed fee, during the stipulated period of his/her study program.

Examination Criteria for Pharm-D Students

  1. Passing marks in each paper will be 50%. Less than 50% marks student shall be declared as fail.
  2. A student who fails to qualify all the papers in a class in three consecutive chances availed or un-availed shall not be allowed to remain on the rolls of the department.
  3. A student who passed all the subjects of the lower class after 3rd chance in annual examination can sit in higher class examination in the 2nd annual examination, if otherwise eligible.
  4. There is no room for carry on system.
  5. There will be three chances in qualifying 1st year examination of Pharm-D. However, in 2nd and onward examinations after availing 3rd chance, the candidate should not be dropped out from the College and must appear in all the subjects.
  6. A candidate with attendance of less than 80% of the total number of lectures delivered to his/her class in all papers taken together (aggregate) and 80% of the practical in papers taken together (aggregate) shall not be allowed to take 1st and 2nd annual examination. Provided that the MD of AIMS Bahawalpur may, on recommendation of the Principal concerned, condone for valid reasons (illness/family tragedy) deficiency up to 5% of the total lectures and practical delivered to his class (separately).

Scholarships

Merit Scholarships

  • The students having 90-95% marks in F.Sc, 15% of tuition fee will be waived off.
  • The student having above 95% marks in F.Sc, 20% of tuition fee will be waived off.
  • A student who got the position in the university examination, institute will offer up to 50% tuition fee concession.

Orphan Student Scholarships

  • Akbar Institute of Medical Sciences Bahawalpur offers 50% waiver off on tuition fee for orphan students.

Need Base Scholarships

  • The enrolled students facing financial crises due to any reason can apply for fee concession.
  • Principal has authority to facilitate such student in fee concession according to their resources.

Student Code of Conduct

  1. The Student Code of Conduct and Disciplinary Procedures is devised with the primary objective of ensuring exemplary behavior and conduct of students which they can achieve by displaying the highest degree of moral and ethical values.
  2. All students enrolled in the college must ensure they are aware of and acting in compliance with all published College policies.
  3. The Managing Director, Principal, In-charge of Student Affairs and Admin Officer are fully empowered and competent to initiate an inquiry and impose any penalty in cases where an offense as per the provisions of this Code and Procedures has been committed by any student, notwithstanding the fact that the said individual may have been exonerated or acquitted by a court of law or competent authority under prevailing laws of the land.
  4. The College expects that the behavior of its students within and outside the precincts of the College will be in conformity with the highest standards of honesty, ethics, morality and discipline. They must conduct themselves in ways that uphold the reputation of the College and its programs.
  5. As a condition of enrolment in the College, each student assumes absolute responsibility to adhere to the Code of Conduct. In cases where there are grounds to suspect a breach or any infringement of the Code of Conduct, disciplinary action under the auspices of the Disciplinary Procedures may, in the absolute discretion of the College (whether on a complaint or otherwise of its own accord), be initiated for such behavior committed either within or outside the precincts of the College.

General Student Conduct

  1. All students will present themselves with dignity befitting their status as mature, law abiding and responsible persons and show tolerance toward religious, ethnic, social and other differences.
  2. Students will refrain from any activity which is subversive of discipline and/or brings the College into disrepute.
  3. Students in all settings are expected to dress in the approved uniform in an appropriate manner.
  4. Students individually or as a group will refrain from engaging in any activity which hinders or prevents the participation of another person or group of persons in any activities of the college.
  5. Students will ensure that their actions do not in any way threaten or endanger the health, safety or security of other persons or imperil the latter's properties.
  6. Students will refrain from any behavior which will cause damage to college property.
  7. Students will treat all members of AIMS community including staff, faculty, attendants, visitors, and their fellow students with respect and dignity.

General Academic Conduct

  1. Students shall attend lectures, tutorials, seminars, practical sessions, clinics and ward assignments, examinations and other scheduled courses and activities, in accordance with the attendance requirements of the College.
  2. Each student shall be solely responsible for completing their scheduled examinations and attending other academic activities, as per their program requirements.
  3. Students will respect the confidentiality of information pertaining to all persons working or associated with the College including but not limited to fellow students, staff and their records and will use such information in no other circumstances than for authorized academic and professional purposes. When in doubt students must seek written permission from the authorized faculty or staff members to use such data in writing.
  4. Students will be required to obtain prior permission in writing through approved committee structures for the following:
    • Organizing co-curricular activities in college and/or within the digital environment.
    • Making public statements, communication or correspondence with the press or other media for mass communication commenting on the internal affairs of the College.
    • Picketing, rallies, demonstrations or organized obstructions of any student and College function in any manner whatsoever.
    • Planning to engage in any fundraising activity on college premises, using the College brand, or for college activities.
    • Inviting Government and/or foreign dignitaries, ministers, representatives of foreign governments/agencies or other public personalities in their official capacity to college.
    • Using College records or data for academic or professional purposes.
    • Liaising, working, or getting in touch (for any reason whatsoever) with any competent authority or regulatory body, except in their personal capacity without representing the College (either directly or otherwise).

Disciplinary Offences

Without prejudice to and in addition to the generality of the provisions of the Student Code of Conduct, the following conduct by students will constitute a disciplinary offence:

  1. Repeated failure to conform to scheduled instruction, practical work, examination, clinical assignments and/or coercing other students to act likewise.
  2. Any form of intimidation, insult, abusive language, assault, molestation or harassment (of any kind and of any nature whatsoever) of students, staff, faculty or other persons, within or outside the College.
  3. Any form of unauthorized picketing, rallies, demonstrations or organized obstructions of any student and College function in any manner whatsoever.
  4. Any attempt to conceive, design or affect any plan of whatever nature whose object or consequence is to disrupt academic programs of the College or its operations.
  5. Malicious acts, theft, willful damage, or misuse of the College's or any third party's property.
  6. Raising funds, accepting donations, or engaging in similar activities for and on behalf of the College without prior written approval of the College administration.
  7. Smoking, including electronic smoking or smoking in all forms, as well as tobacco consumption, cigarette smoking, and consuming intoxicated items, is prohibited in the settings of the College.
  8. Procurement, possession, use, sale or display of any weapon, including firearms or any other contraband item in college or at any College-related event.
  9. Procurement, possession, use, sale and consumption of banned drugs, alcohol or other contraband items in the College or related events.
  10. Any act of violence causing injury or damage to any person or property in the College.
  11. Providing wrong information, giving false and/or fabricated evidence, deliberately concealing material facts or information to the College in any proceedings and inquiries carried out at any forum.
  12. Committing or involvement in any act of deceit, fraud, forgery with the College, students, staff or faculty.
  13. Abuse, unauthorized or fraudulent use of college information and communication technology infrastructure, data, and any other College resources, including but not limited to computers, network systems, files or data.
  14. Failure to comply with or violating or breaching or disregarding the published College policies and regulations or failure to comply with the direction of College officials acting in performance of their duties.
  15. Any act prohibited and/or not permitted under any law of Pakistan.
  16. To represent the College or comment on the College's behalf at any public forum without explicit written approval from an authorized College official.
  17. Assisting, supporting, facilitating, encouraging, and provoking any of the offences referred in above clauses.

Disciplinary Procedure

  1. Any breach of discipline, including but not limited to those mentioned in previous sections, must be immediately reported to the Principal, In-charge Student Affairs and Admin Officer.
  2. Incident reports may be submitted by any member of the College including but not limited to faculty, staff and students.

Disciplinary Actions

In cases of breaches of Disciplinary Offences, College will impose anyone or more of the disciplinary actions given below, depending on the severity of the offence:

  1. Counselling of the student.
  2. A letter of warning or reprimand to the student.
  3. Probation for a specified period of time with mandatory periodic counselling.
  4. The payment of fine by the offender commensurate with the nature and gravity of the offence committed.
  5. Suspension from the College for a specified period.
  6. Expulsion from the College.
  7. Any other penalty which the relevant authority/body of the College may deem fit to impose.

Appeals

  1. Any appeal of the Principal, In-charge Student Affairs and Admin Officer's decision must be made within 10 working days of the date of the letter notifying the student of the decision.
  2. Students must make their appeal in writing.
  3. An appeal may only be made by the student for/regarding whom the decision has been taken. Appeals received from parties other than the student will not be considered.
  4. Disagreement with the Principal, In-charge Student Affairs decision is not grounds for an appeal.
  5. In filing an appeal, students must be clear about the reasons why they believe the Principal, In-charge Student Affairs decision is incorrect.
  6. If there is evidence of prejudice or bias or lack of proper conduct on the part of the Principal, In-charge Student Affairs and Admin Officer, appeals should be addressed to the Managing Director or their designate.
  7. The decision of the Managing Director or their designate shall be final and binding on all parties.

Sharing of Information

Where appropriate, information about a disciplinary offence may be passed on to the student's parents/guardians/sponsors.

Disciplinary Rules and Regulations

  1. Students are requested to maintain the highest standards of behavior and discipline both inside and outside the College.
  2. Students are required to improve and maintain consistency in their performance in the College examinations in order to get promotions to the subsequent class.
  3. Students shall strictly observe the disciplinary rules framed by the College. Violations shall be dealt with by the Principal in the manner he/she considers fit, and that decision shall be final.
  4. No student shall enter the class or leave the class without the permission of the lecturer.
  5. Every class in-charge and academic advisor keeps a close watch on the students' attendance, progress, and conduct.
  6. Irregular attendance, indifference regarding classwork and examination, discourtesy toward teachers, insubordination, obscenity in word and act, willful damage to college property, and anti-social activities are liable for disciplinary action, including expulsion from the College.
  7. Attendance at College functions such as association meetings, College assembly, seminars, group discussions, industrial visits, and viva voce is obligatory for all students.
  8. Students who do not live with their parents or guardians must live in hostels or in lodges approved by the Principal.
  9. Without permission of the Principal, students shall not organize activities or associate with any outside group concerned with the College.
  10. No meeting shall be convened, no outside person shall be invited, no publication shall be issued, and no mobilizing of students for any particular purpose shall be made without the permission of the Principal.
  11. The Principal shall have the power to expel any student from the College if the student is guilty of serious misconduct or the student's presence in the College is injurious to order and discipline.
  12. Latecomers can enter the class only if permitted by the lecturer. They may be marked present by him/her at the end of an hour only if there is sufficient reason for being late.
  13. During class hours, permission of the lecturer is needed to move from one seat to another or to leave the room.
  14. Books, magazines, newspapers, pagers, etc., not approved by the Principal are not allowed to be brought to the College. The use of mobile phones is strictly banned inside the campus.
  15. Every student should possess an identity card issued by the College, which should be produced whenever asked, especially when dealing with the office.
  16. The College has developed a tradition of a homely informal atmosphere of freedom with responsibility, treating one another with love and respect. However, some norms of general conduct are laid down.
  17. There is nothing that can substitute for self-discipline and serious devotion to duty, a spirit of respect and love for all that is good, noble, and beautiful in life. The College expects students to keep their vision high and solicit the cooperation of parents to minimize the necessity of enforcing rules and regulations.
  18. Students are expected to treat the College as their own and to cooperate in its efficient and smooth running.
  19. Dress Code: Students shall wear College uniforms every day. The approved style of wearing uniform should be strictly followed. Usual dress for boys is pants and shirts with black shoes and black belts. For girls: shirt, trouser, dupatta, and black shoes. Any exemption will be notified by the authorities.
  20. Loitering and wasting time on the College campus and canteen causes indiscipline and must be avoided.
